Sport activities - Shoreline



Nautical activities

The presence of large water spreads sheltered from the winds with very few currents enables many nautical activities: windsurfing boards, catamarans, kayaks, dinghies, sand yachts, speed sails, but also surfing, diving and water skiing…

 

Sailing club of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne
Many nautical sports are available at the sailing club located at the north end of the large beach. Available: hiring of equipment, lessons and training.
 
Windsurfing boards
The form of the beaches of Royan and Saint-Georges offers windsurfing boarders a large play area and an ideal space for beginners.
 

Kites
The marine breeze, often present, enables kite fans to create magnificent figures on the beach.
 
Surf
Across from the hotel, the waves are only present at the time of strong tides, which only happens a few times throughout the year. On the other hand, the waves at the Côte Sauvage (The Wild Coast), near the Lighthouse of la Coubre, are famous. The currents are strong there, so only advanced surfers should attempt surfing there. For calmer waves, try the beach of Pontaillac, which offer nice waves when the wind blows hard.
 
Diving
If you hold at least a Level 1 Licence, you can dive from June to September.
 
And… for the less athletic... cruises of course!
Cruises are possible to visit the Lighthouse of Cordouan, the church of Talmont, the caves and the cave dwellings. Ask at the harbour for more information. 

Other sport activities

Squash
The Espace Squash of Royan is located 1 km from Colinette. Seven courts enable anyone to release tension during a squash match with a relative or a friend. You can hire equipment on the premises.

Tennis
At 200 m from Colinette, the Tennis de l’Orangerie offers outdoor clay courts, green set or synthetic turf (in July and August). Many other courts are open year-round (Garden Tennis, Tennis de la Mairie, Tennis Club de l’Hippocampe…). 
 
Golf
In the neighbourhood of Maine-Gaudin in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, an 18-hole course is available, as well as a 6-hole course.
 
Horseback Riding
Numerous clubs offer riding in the forest or even on the beach for advanced riders. In Saint-Palais-sur-Mer at the equestrian centre Maine-Gaudin, you can watch the International Jumping taking place every year. 
 
Sky-diving
The Sky-Diving Centre Ecole Regional (Regional School Centre), located and operating at the airfield of Royan-Médis, accumulates more than 30 000 jumps a year. Introduction to sky-diving and training available.
 
And… for the less athletically-inclined... think thalassotherapy
Facing the Atlantic coast, come get healed and pampered by physiotherapists, beauticians… Weekly and daily stays available.
